Dear {Name / Title},
I am writing to ask for clear rules around how AI is used, especially for disabled people and artists.
Right now, many disabled people are using AI tools to access information, communicate, and do their work. But this often happens because human support is not available or is too expensive. AI can be helpful. But it can also cause harm if it is not regulated.
Here are the most important things I am asking for:
1. Privacy and consent
- People should know when AI is being used
- People should be able to say no
- Personal data should not be taken or used without permission
2. Do not replace human support
- AI should not replace interpreters, captioners, or support workers
- Human access services must continue to be funded
- Recognize that access is relational, not just technical
3. No surveillance
- AI should not be used to track, monitor, or control people
- People should not be forced to use AI to access services
4. Be clear and transparent
- Organizations should explain how they use AI
- There should be clear policies and rules
5. Include disabled people
- Disabled people should be involved in decisions about AI
- This should be more than consultation. We need real input and leadership
Disabled people are not asking for more technology. We are asking for better access, better support, and clear protections.
AI is being used right now, but the rules are not clear. This needs to change.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
{your name}
