Turtle Island is the name used by many Indigenous peoples of the Americas to refer to the continent of North America.
The name comes from several Indigenous creation stories that describe the continent as being formed on the back of a giant turtle.
This term is widely used by Indigenous groups and also activities and settlers as an act of cultural revitalization and resistance against colonial narratives and names.
